Residents in The Fairways of Woodlake, one of several communities nestled around the former Woodlake Golf Club, said the promised revitalization of the course has yet to happen nearly two years after a new owner bought the 186-acre property.
“They haven't done nothing with this,” said Judith Mena, who moved into her home just off the 18th tee box 13 years ago.
Mena said her husband and other residents have hired lawn care companies to cut areas behind their homes that have grown into brushy areas resembling wilderness more than a back nine.
The course was purchased by Woodlake Acquisitions LLC in October of 2013 with initial plans to reopen the course.
“They said they were going to repair it, they bought it and they were going to go ahead and fix it up and everybody got all excited,” said Mena.
“It was so good to see people golfing, and that's why we moved here,” added Vega. But 21 months later, nothing has happened.
“Nobody knows and it's sad because none of us have answers,” said Mena, adding that attempts to contact the company have gone unanswered.
Property tax records show over $35,000 in delinquent taxes on the parcels of land owned by the acquisition group, although monthly payments are being made. “We try to have people come over and the whole, 'Oh, you live on the golf course! Do y'all golf?
