"My medium of choice is three-dimensional fiber installation. Starting with undyed silk organza, I hand mix a variety of dye baths, then create patterns and textures on the fiber. The fabric is cut into smaller pieces and left to show the surface texture, or steam pressed to instill a uniform appearance," said Kraus.
Kraus teaches classes at Water Street Studios, including an upcoming DaVinci Reinvented class for children, ages 7 to 11. Students will learn about DaVinci, create technical drawings, then work to turn those ideas into 3-dimensional pieces using a variety of materials.
DaVinci Reinvented is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 11 at Water Street Studios, 160 S. Water St., Batavia. Registration is $70 for members and $85 for non-members. Visit waterstreetstudios.com
