Golf Prop Betting Explained

Golf Prop Betting Explained (Golf Master Tips) - While there are many golf props out there, we’ll go over some of the most popular types of prop bets. This overview will give you a solid understanding of golf prop wagers and how they work.

Top-10 Props
This is a prop bet on whether a certain player will finish in the top 10 of a given tournament and are offered by some sportsbooks before the tournament starts.

Golf Prop Betting Explained

This prop allows you to pick a player you believe will finish among the top 10 in any given tournament. Here’s an example of what that would look like:

FedEx Classic – Will Tiger Woods Finish in the Top 10?
Yes                                         -110

Therefore, if you were to wager $200 on Tiger Woods to finish among the top 10 in the FedEx Classic and finished fifth, you would receive a total payout of $381.82, which includes your $200 risk amount.

Winning Margin Props
With props of this nature, you’re not wagering on a specific individual, but rather the margin of victory alone. Here’s an example of what a winning margin prop would look like:

US Open – Winning Margin
1 Stroke                              +250
2 Strokes                             +350
3 Strokes                             +450
4 Strokes or More                 +350
Playoff                                 +250

If you were to wager $100 that the victor of the US Open would win by a margin of three strokes and he did, then you would receive a total payout of $550. It’s important to note that should a playoff be needed to decide the winner, only the Playoff option would be graded as a win, regardless of the margin of victory at the end of the playoff.

Top Player Props
This prop typically divides the player up by their country of origin and gives you the chance to pick that country’s best player in a given tournament. Here’s an example:

TOUR Championship – Top Australian Player
Aaron Baddeley                  4/1
Geoff Ogilvy                       5/1
Matt Jones                          6/1

Using that example, if you were to wager $200 that Aaron Baddeley would be the best Australian golfer in the TOUR Championship and he was, you would win a total payout of $1,200, which includes your risk amount. In some cases, you’ll have the option to bet “the Field”, which is a line that includes every player not included in the list. (Golf betting tips source: Bovada
