New Golf Cart Ordinance in Holly Springs - Many Holly Springs residents say the new golf cart ordinance that takes effect Wednesday will be a welcome asset to the community.

"Golf cart communities are a very nice way for people to get around without having to drive a big car or a pickup through the neighborhood to get back and forth to the pool, to go play golf, go to the park,” said Holly Springs resident Chuck White.

New Golf Cart Ordinance in Holly Springs

In March, Holly Springs town council agreed to allow golf cart owners, 18 and over, to ride on town streets, with speed limits of 25 miles per hour or less.

Each cart is required to have headlights, tail-lights, and reflectors, seat belts, turn signals and rear view mirrors.

Also, owners must possess and maintain liability insurance and the cart must be registered to a physical address in Holly Springs. There is also a required cart inspection and a $50 annual registration fee.

"Our mayor had gotten some calls from people who were concerned about golf carts in public streets in their neighborhood. We also know that there were some people who are interested being able to operate their golf cart on a public street to get from point A to point B,” said Holly Springs Public Information Officer Mark Andrews.

Residents say their biggest concerns are underage drivers operating the golf carts and not following traffic laws.

"They need to be aware of the traffic laws. The cross walks, stop signs, that all has to be followed,” said Holly Springs resident Stephen Tyler.

"The big thing is going to be safety of the children and the kids, the younger teenagers with their licenses. I think that parents just want to make sure that they abide by all the laws too,” said Holly Springs resident Kerrie Vaughn. (Golf Master Tips source: TWC News)
