The Secret to Shooting Even Par Golf

Golf Master Tips, The Secret of Professionals Golf Shooting - Golf professionals and competitive players understand the secret to shooting even par or better. The truth is, it's not a secret, we simply don't focus on the same things that the professionals and competitive golfers focus on.

The Secret to Shooting Even Par Golf

There are three things that you should concentrate on in order to shoot even par:
  • First, you have to hit a fairly high percentage of fairways.
  • Second, you must hit a reasonably high percentage of greens in regulation.
  • Third, you have to reduce your number of putts per round.
The inability to hit fairways places you in a difficult situation, in which you have to rely on your short game to bail you out. The professionals are hitting more than 75% of fairways and upwards of 80%. Whenever you miss the fairway your chance of hitting the green drops by more than 25%-30%. If you're able to hit around 65% of fairways your chance of shooting par is much better.

Hitting greens in regulation provides you with the opportunity to putt for birdie. Making an occasional birdie helps you move toward shooting even par. The professionals are hitting 75% or more of greens in regulation. If you can hit 65% of greens in regulation, you can certainly score low. When you miss the green, you must be able to scramble to make par.

Golf Master Tips,

The professionals have a scrambling percentage that's above 75%. However, we're not professionals. Realistically speaking, 50%-60% would be realistic for you, unless you practice your short game a lot.

When you can get up and down around 50% of the time, you certainly improve your possibility of shooting even par. Getting rid of three putts will be your best chance of scoring a low round. Eliminate three putts, by practicing making those 3ft-5ft putts. You see making 3ft-5ft putts is what you will need to get up and down in many situations.

The professionals are hitting below 30 putts per round. You should set your goal at 32 putts or less per round. If you are a single digit handicapper and you want to shot even par, do not focus a great deal on hitting range balls and trying to develop a perfect swing. You need to concentrate on the three main stats previously mentioned. (Author)
