Introduction to Know Golf Courses

Golf Master Tips, Introduction to Know Golf Courses - Golf courses are a great way to spend leisure time for individuals and groups. Before you go, however, check out the type and difficulty of courses available, costs, policies for members versus the public, and other amenities you may enjoy at the facility.

Golf Course Type and Difficulty

Browse facility websites to see if they offer both 18-hole and 9-hole options for a round of play. Browse photos and note the description of the various holes and general terrain. Most businesses will list if they have choices for different skill levels, from the novices to the expert golfers. For example, some places may have an area where you can simply practice putting, or a driving range to practice long-range shots.

Golf Courses Costs
Many facilities will offer discounts for children under 12, senior citizens, veterans and those currently in the military, as well as groups. Different rates usually apply for weekends and holidays. Sometimes you may receive a better rate for playing at certain times of the day that are considered not peak hours.

Golf Courses Policies
You will need to know if reservations are required for a tee time, or if you can simply show up and begin playing in an available space. There may be policies for the usage of golf carts, how many people are in your party, the time of play, a specific dress code, and more. Understand the rules for play so you are fully prepared when you arrive.

Membership and Public Availability
Many golf courses offer membership privileges. These may include free or discounted green fees and cart fees. Usually, you are allowed to bring guests to the facility at a more reduced rate than the public rate. Members may have the opportunity to play at special times that are not available to the general public. Some other amenities such as facility rental, a pro shop, technique lessons, a pool or other athletic courts may be available at a reduced rate or no cost as well.

The general public is usually welcome at membership facilities, but you will want to confirm before you arrive. The public may have certain tee times available, and will usually pay slightly higher green and cart fees than members. Other amenities may be available as well, but at a cost.

Amenities
Many clubs contain amenities such as a pool, ballrooms or other venues that may be reserved or rented for events such as weddings or other gatherings, tennis courts, a pro shop, and lessons for various skill levels.

Remember, if you are a novice golfer, you don't want to visit a very technical or difficult course. Likewise, if you are very skilled, you will want a facility that will challenge you. If you will visit often, you may want to consider a membership facility.

Finally, if other features are important to you, consider a facility that has the ones you want. Take time to know the particulars of golf courses you are interested in visiting before you make the trip. (Andrew Stratton)
